Six Weeks In: Reflections on Building My Own Practice

As July comes to a close, I am reflecting on the first six weeks of solo practice and what I have to show for it.

In hard numbers, one USCIS approval, plus consular approvals for a group of technicians traveling for specialized service work. Different visa categories, different countries, different agencies, all landing in the same stretch of time.

In the background, countless meetings, creating partnerships, initiating new cases, filing applications, reconnecting with old and signing new clients. It hasn't been all victories, but it's all been worth it.

My son's camp counselor pulled me aside yesterday to tell me he had told them all exactly what his mom does "she's a lawyer and has her own lawyerment company." Knowing how excited he is about what I'm building and what I'm doing every day hammered home what a big and completely worthwhile step it's been, jumping into solo practice and building my own "lawyerment company" from the ground up.

Grateful to the clients who took a chance on a brand-new firm. I'm glad I get to do this work on my own terms now.
